Description
Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, is a form of painting that involves a heated wax medium to which colored pigments have been added. The molten mix is applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are sometimes used. The possibilities are endless. The transparency of the wax lends itself to layering, embedding found objects, and all sorts of ways to transfer images. Encaustics can be successful with no artistic skills and be taken to extraordinary levels with direction and practice. Because encaustics uses heat and flame to build, I like to schedule these workshops in the winter months, between October through March.
Skill Level
No artistic skills are required, There are ways to work in encaustics with no drawing skills. Students must be able to use hot tools.
